Tips for Saving Water

  • A household faucet runs at 3 to 5 gallons a minute
  • Avoid waste turn faucets off firmly
  • Check appliances connecting hoses and faucets for leaks. Even a pinhole leak wastes up to 170 gallons a day
  • Test your toilet for leaks. Add several drops of food coloring to the toilet tank, if it’s leaking, coloring will appear in the toilet without flushing
  • Avoid using the toilet for a wastebasket. Every flush you eliminate can save between 2 and 7 gallons of water
  • Install a water-efficient toilet, if possible
  • Short showers save water. Install a low-flow showerhead and keep showers under 5 minutes
  • Cool drinking water in refrigerator or with ice, not by running tap
  • Water yards wisely. Minimize evaporation by watering in early morning or evening
  • Cover pools and spas to reduce evaporation. Avoid overflows and splashes by reducing water levels

Water Quality

The 2009 Water Quality Report for Hazel Park is now available at City Hall.

The City of Hazel Park is required to deliver to every house and business, a Consumer Confidence Water Quality Report annually. Last year, as in all previous years your tap water has met and/or surpassed all drinking water health standards required by the Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.), as well as the State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Frozen Pipes

Never leave water pipes and/or water meter in an unheated area. This could cause damage to the water meter and your plumbing, resulting in high water bills and fees.

Any citizen having experienced an overflow or backup of a sewage disposal system or storm water system, must file a written claim with The City of Hazel Park within 45 days after the overflow or backup is discovered. A claim form may be obtained by calling the City Clerk at 248-546-4064.
