
City of Hazel Park Minor Home Repair Program
The Minor Home Repair Program (MHR) is designed to help low to moderate income homeowners’ complete minor home maintenance projects. Funding (up to $500) will be provided to comply with the required home repairs recommended by the Code Enforcement Department. There are several requirements that must be met in order to take advantage of this assistance.
1. Property must be in need of home improvements to bring it into a decent, safe, and sanitary condition
2. Homes must be single-family, owner-occupied, primary residence located within the City of Hazel Park.
3. Rental properties are not eligible
3. Gross household income must fall within HUD income limits established for the program
4. Property taxes must be current
5. Grant money is available only once in a lifetime
All household income must be properly documented. Acceptable income verifications will include, but will not be limited to, the most recent Michigan Homestead tax return, federal tax returns, and/or letters from the Social Security Administration. This information must be supplied for each member of a household over the age of 18.
Examples of repairs covered under this program include furnaces, water heaters, stairs, and sidewalks or addressing electrical, sanitary, and code violations.
Due to Federal Lead Based Paint regulations, the city will not cover projects that involve the disturbance of paint in houses built before 1978. There is an increased cost that is incurred as a result of compliance with the lead based paint requirements and must be completed by certified lead abatement contractors.
