In May of 2009, Hazel Park was recognized by Oakland County as the pilot community for a brand new initiative called Oak Street.  This county program offers educational and staff resources to help communities preserve the historic character of its neighborhoods, while attaining sustainable growth and investment.  The city was proud to host the very first Oak Street Fair, giving residents an opportunity to come together, enjoy a free fair including food, games and entertainment, and learn about valuable resources available to preserve Hazel Park neighborhoods.  Oakland County again selected Hazel Park in May of 2010 to host the second Oak Street Fair, and despite inclement weather, residents, businesses and community groups joined forces to pool resources and exchange information in an effort to strengthen our neighborhoods.
