Greetings; Please let me introduce myself, I am David Niedermeier, the Police Chief for the Hazel Park Police Department.

As your Police Chief, my goal is to maintain the streets and neighborhoods of the City Hazel Park as a safe, tranquil and a desirable place to live, do business and spend your free time. I strive to provide the finest attainable police services to this community. While providing this service, I pledge to do so with the highest level of respect, ethics, resourcefulness, professionalism and vigor.

I am a veteran police officer with the City of Hazel Park Police Department and have ascended through the ranks and held numerous positions within the department. After graduation from the police academy, I worked the streets as a patrol officer for several years. I then transferred to the position as the department's investigator in the Youth Bureau. After maintaining this position for several years I was promoted to the rank of sergeant and went back to the patrol division as the supervisor of the afternoon shift. Later I took the position of detective and spent numerous years in the detective bureau investigating a wide range of crimes. My next promotion was to lieutenant; I again went back to road patrol and worked the afternoon shift, this time as the shift commander. The promotion to the Chief of Police is the current office that I hold.

My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in Criminal Justice. I have extensive in-service continued education which partially includes; Crime Prevention, Evidence Technician, Nationally Certified Arson Investigator, 4 State Advanced Training Certificates of Accreditation in Law Enforcement, Criminal Profiling and Police Executive Training for Chiefs, just to name a few.

A partial listing of departmental awards bestowed in accordance with the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police include: 3 individual Certificates of Merit for armed robbery arrests; Life Saving Award; Commendation for an armed robbery arrest; Unit Commendation for a breaking & entering arrest; Departmental Citation for Officer of the Year Award - 1994; Safe Driving Award (5year); Safe Driving Award (10year); as well as numerous letters of commendation from various police chiefs, citizens, prosecutors, other police departments as well as other governmental and private organizations.

I am very excited to be your Police Chief. I have grand visions for both this Police Department as well as this City. I intend to invest my energy, knowledge and efforts into making both models of excellence within the Metropolitan Detroit Area and a benchmark within the State of Michigan.

If I can be of any assistance, or if you wish to send me a letter commenting on our department or any of the programs that we offer, or if you have suggestions that may assist our police department in our goal to achieve excellence, please send me an E-mail or a letter by regular mail to my attention at the police department.
