The Hazel Park Fire Department is comprised of twenty full-time fire fighters. The fire department prides itself on providing its citizens with the most professional and effective fire and ambulance service possible for the protection of life and property. At this time all 20 members of the department are basic EMT's certified in Automatic External Defibrillation and in Advanced Airway Management. We provide ambulance service to out citizens and will transport them to one of three local facilities (St. John's Oakland, Royal Oak Beaumont, or Providence Southfield) upon request.

Ray Dewalt is the Fire Chief, a life long citizen of Hazel Park and has two sons. He has been the Fire Chief now for three years and has been on the department for 11 years. Some of the duties that the Chief is responsible for include budgets, staffing, and making sure that all employees are educated and trained efficiently. He is also responsible for command at fireground incidents.

Bill Anderson is the department's Fire Marshal. He is a life long resident of Hazel Park, and married with two children. Bill's education includes a Bachelors Degree from Wayne State University, State Certified Fire Inspector, he has attended State Fire Marshal courses in Basic Fire Investigation, Automobile Fire Investigation, and National Fire Academy courses in Emmitsburg, Maryland, Fire Inspection Principals and Management for Arson Prevention and Control.

Each year we hold an open house during Fire Prevention Week. This open house provides a host of demonstrations as well as a chance for the public to meet and talk with their fire fighters.

The members of the fire department belong to the International Association of Fire Fighters Union, Local 1414. Mark Schofield is the current President of the union and a captain with the department. Our union is responsible for a majority of the department's fund raising events and is involved in many other community activities.
