The City of Hazel Park requires the following licenses and permits. A brief description of each follows including the cost for application.
Landlord Licenses
Property owners need to have a valid license in place before renting out property.
Licenses are issued on a two year basis. For calendaring purposes, properties south of Nine Mile expire in an even numbered year; houses north of Nine Mile expire in an odd numbered year. Please contact the City Clerk’s office for the appropriate fee. For a full two year period, the fee is $300.00. There is a $100.00 Reinstatement Fee if the license is suspended or revoked.
Business Licenses
All bi-annual business licenses are $300.00, plus $10.00 for a background check for new applicants. All new applicants should first check with the Planning Department to verify whether the area they wish to open a business is zoned for that type of operation. All owners and operators of the business need to provide copies of their driver licenses at the time of application. Operating a business without a license will result in a $75.00 fine.
Pet Licensing
All licensing is based on the length of your pet’s rabies vaccination. One year ($8), two years ($12), three years ($16). You will have to provide proof of rabies vaccination. Contact the City Clerk’s office with any questions regarding Amendment to Title 6 Animals, Chapter 6.04, Section 6.04.205 Dangerous animals defined-procedure, prohibiting or regulating the owning or keeping of dangerous animals including pit bull dogs, providing for permits for certain animals, penalties and violations.
Handbill Licensing
All groups or organizations dispensing handbills throughout the city need to first apply for a license. Fee is $100.00 a year. Yearly is May 1-April 30th. Names, home addresses and identification for each person passing out handbills is mandatory, along with a $10 fee for background checks (on each individual).
Peddlers/Solicitors License
$100.00 per year - $10.00 per each for individual background check
All applicants (helpers) will need to provide a copy of fingerprints, Oakland County Health Card (skin test), obtain a proper vehicle inspection by the Health Department (and provide the city a report of same) along with two current (clear) photos.
Junk/Scrap Licenses
$100 yearly (no ½ year licenses) May 1-April 30; $10.00 background check per individual. Applications will contain the name and addresses of all officers & operators to whom junk will be sold. Driver licenses, valid registration and proof of insurance is required at the time of application.
Snow Removal Contractor
$100.00 – first two vehicles, $50.00 for each additional vehicle.
Insurance: $100,000/$300,000 personal liability and $100,000 property damage
Application, co of driver licenses for each and every owner/officer/driver, proof of insurance, registration for each vehicle.
Sign Erector License
$100.00 per year.
Application, sign performance bond ($5,000), certificate of insurance, State license and copy of all owner and officer driver licenses. Expiration 12/31 of each year.
Cement Contractor
$100.00 a year (May 1-April 30), no ½ year fees.
Application or renewal, bond ($1,000), Power of Attorney, copy of State License and driver’s license.
