IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Dangerous Animals Ordinance
The City of Hazel Park amended its ordinance regarding Dangerous Animals in November of 2011. Owners must be responsible for their pets, protecting both human and animal life. Please see the attached Ordinance for details. Fees for violations of this ordinance have recently been increased. Please call the City Clerk's office for information on fees (248) 546-4064.
Pit Bull Ban Now in Effect
In November, 2011, the City Council passed an ordinance banning pit bulls in the City of Hazel Park as of February 1, 2012. Any residents that have an unregistered pit bull in the City of Hazel Park after February 1, 2012, are considered to be in violation of the ordinance, and as such will be subject to fines and costs, and orders of the court. Any pit bulls licensed and registered with the City Clerk’s office prior to February 1, 2012 will not be in violation of this ordinance.
If a complaint is received by the City of Hazel Park that there is an animal in violation of the ordinance, the matter will be investigated by a Code Enforcement Officer, and if a violation is discovered, the resident will be given a notice of violation. The resident will then have five days to provide the City with proof that they are not in violation of the ordinance, or the City reserves the right to remove and impound the animal in question.
